TOP-ROPE CLIMBING AND BELAYING

BELAYING

A technique used in climbing to exert friction on a climbing rope so that a falling climber does not fall very far.

Top- Rope Climbing and Belaying:

An essential and very important aspect of climbing on ropes. This is what every beginner in climbing should know!

Learn During Vertical Heaven's 2 Hour Class:

  • Proper Use and Functions of Climbing Equipment: Harness, Carabiners, Manual Belay Devices (ATC)  vs. Automatic Locking Belay Devices (Gri-Gri)

LEAD CLIMBING AND LEAD BELAYING CLASSES


Once you are comfortable with your skills climbing and belaying on Top-Rope, it's time to move to the next level:

LEAD CLIMBING AND LEAD BELAYING

Our 2 Hour Lead Climbing Class is designed for those that are ready to push themselves with the climbing rope below them instead of above them! This is an advanced climbing skill and we do have basic prerequisites before enrollment:

  • Age 13 years old or older
  • Passed a Top-Rope Belay Assessment prior to enrollment
  • Enrollment with current climbing partner, or just the Lead Climbing Portion will be taught for class time. A second class will have to be taken for the Lead Belay instruction.
  • We recommend bringing your own climbing equipment such as harness, belay device and dynamic rope- this will only help you to improve your skills on the gear that you will be using in the gym or at the crag!

  • Efficient and Safe Clipping
  • Stances and Resting
  • Falling on Lead
  • Ratings
  • Onsight, Flash and Red-point Ascents
  • Various Training Techniques to Improve Lead Climbing Skills

Lead Belaying

  • Climbing Commands
  • How to Manage the Climbing Rope Dynamically
  • How to use a manual belay device (ATC) vs. a self-locking belay device (GRI-GRI)
  • Catching Falls Correctly and Safely
  • Ground Anchoring Systems in Our Climbing Gym




TECHNIQUE 101 & 102

Technique 101

Climbers will learn the fundamentals of efficient climbing technique including:

  • Footwork
  • Posturing
  • Movement From The Core
  • Straight-Arm Climbing
  • Reading Sequences
  • Training To Be A Better Climber
Technique 102
Climbers will learn advanced climbing technique including:
  • Progression From Posturing To Movement
  • Dynamic Technique
  • Reading Sequences
  • Power vs Endurance
  • Resting While Climbing

BOULDERING CLINIC

Are big power moves and huge dynos your thing? Not into all of the gear and pain of a rope? Then Bouldering is for you.


Climbers will learn the basics of bouldering including:
  • V-Scale Rating System
  • Spotting
  • Reading Sequences
  • On-sighting vs Flashing
  • Working a Problem
  • Training for Power vs Endurance


PRIVATE COACHING

Want some one-on-one private training? Get your own personal instructor! Available for private or semi-private lessons, you can select from several of our highly qualified instructors. We will be happy to tailor a climbing program to meet your needs.
$75.00/hr (Additional climber $30.00/hr)

ANCHOR CLINICS

Learn the basic tools and techniques used to build safe and solid climbing anchors. This clinic will start with a look through the climber’s toolbox, comparing and contrasting available equipment and techniques. The program will also include a thorough examination of simple anchors, with special attention paid to bolts and other fixed gear. Each of these topics will build into a discussion and demonstration of complex, multi-point climbing anchors. No previous anchor-building experience is required. Printed instructional materials will be provided.
